CCPO confirms involvement of officers in kidnapping

21 January, 2013

QUETTA: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mir Zubair Mehmood has confirmed that three senior police officials arrested by Frontier Corps (FC) were involved in kidnapping of a resident of Dalbandin for ransom.

Addressing a press conference late on Sunday, Mir Zubair said, "The three officers, including Superintendent of Police (SP) and two DSPs of CID Police Quetta and three other personnel have been suspended from service and an FIR has been registered against them for kidnapping Abdul Quddoos, a resident of Dalbandin, headquarters of Chagai district, for ransom."

He said that CID Police Quetta abducted Abdul Quddoos on January 16 and later demanded ransom from his family. He said that an FC team raided the CID office, recovered the abducted person and arrested the police officials. "The FC has handed over the arrested police officials and three other personnel to the Quetta Police and a case against the all accused has been registered with Bijli Ghar Police Station Quetta," the CCPO said.

He said that the Home Department had issued a notification for setting up a committee to conduct inquiry into the involvement of CID Police officials in kidnapping a person for ransom. He said that the committee would work under his supervision.

He said that there were no differences between FC and Quetta Police.

He told reporters that documents and evidence about involvement of the police officials and personnel in kidnapping Abdul Quddoos had also been handed over to police. He said that all the accused would be presented before court.

The FC had arrested 10 people, including four CID officers, for their involvement in kidnapping for ransom, late on Saturday.

The FC also claimed to have recovered Abdul Quddoos from the custody of CID officials.

According to official sources, a team of FC had raided the office of CID Police on a tip-off, recovered Abdul Quddoos and arrested 10 people including CID SP Tariq Manzoor, DSP Bilal and DSP Qutab Khan.

"The ransom money was also recovered from the possession of police officials," sources said.

Earlier, CID Police said that Abdul Quddoos was a drug dealer and arrested along with a huge cache of narcotics in Hazarganji, on the outskirts of Quetta. An FIR was also registered against him in the CID police station, CID Police added. CID DIG Feroze Shah said that CID had submitted an application to police against the FC's raid.

"CID police officers and other accused persons were kept in Ghazaband Scout," sources said.

The FC said that targeted operation would continue against anti-social elements in the province without any discrimination.

The son of DSP Qutab Khan had also registered a case at Airport Police Station against arrest of his father.

Following the imposition of Governor's Rule in Balochistan, the FC was delegated police powers and a free hand in the wake of increasing bomb blasts and lawlessness in the province. The FC has started raiding different parts of Quetta and arrested dozens of accused persons.

The FC, in its targeted operations at Jinnah Town and Jan Muhammad Road of Quetta, arrested three persons, identified as Mohiyuddin, Gazain Ahmad and Nauman, in connection with kidnapping for ransom incidents.

Sources said that FC personnel at Killi Ismail also recovered a kidnapped person, identified as Saad Rafiq, who was kidnapped five days ago.

End.
