Bush hails Pak role in foiling of British Aircraft bombing plot

ISLAMABAD: US President George W Bush Wednesday telephoned President General Pervez Musharraf and discussed at length US-Pakistan bilateral relations, war against terrorism, Middle East situation, regional situation and other important international issues.
Diplomatic Sources said that President Bush expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s role in fight against terrorism particularly mentioning the foiling of British Aircraft bombing plot. He said Pakistan’s role in fighting terrorism is tremendous and the support Islamabad has been extending in this regard in highly appreciative.
He hailed the quick response from Pakistani security agencies vis-à-vis foiling of London aircraft terror plot.
President Bush said Pakistan is a front line ally in war against terrorism and Washington highly values Islamabad’s cooperation in this regard.
The exchange of intelligence information helped both states, foil several terror plots and both US and Pakistan will continue their cooperation in this regard, he added.
The sources further told that US President held out his assurance to President Musharraf that US will fulfill the defence needs of Pakistan particularly Washington will go ahead with sale of F-16s to Pakistan.
They also discussed at length the Middle East situation.
President Bush also said that he was looking forward to his meeting with President Musharraf in the US next month and the opportunity of exchanging on international developments and on measures to further strengthen the strategic relationship between Pakistan and the United States.
President Musharraf also apprised President Bush about steps Pakistan has taken in war against terrorism. He said both Pakistan and US are close allies in war against terrorism and will continue to play their role to wipe out this scourge from the world. However, President Musharraf also stressed the need of conflict resolution for restoration of global peace. He said a justified resolution of political disputes in imperative for global peace and security.
Expressing concern over the situation in Lebanon, President Musharraf asked President Bush to play his part for the settlement of peace and implementation of UN resolution over the matter.
He said Israeli forces should immediately leave Lebanon.
They also discussed bilateral relations and composite dialogue process between Pakistan and India. President Musharraf told Mr Bush that Pakistan wants early restoration of peace process and asked President Bush to play his part in this regard.
