Bomb kills two cops 3 Taliban killed in Nangarhar blitz

LASHKARGAH/JALALABAD: A bomb killed two police and wounded another in Nawa district of Helmand province yesterday, officials said Wednesday. The incident happened in Basolan area of Nawa district when a landmine exploded on dismounted police, said Muhammad Ismail Hotak, deputy head of Herlmand police coordination centre. He told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that a suspect was held in connection with the explosion and being interrogated. Taliban spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the bomb attack, saying two cops were killed and another wounded in the explosion. Meanwhile, three Taliban fighters were killed in bombardment by an unmanned aircraft of the foreign forces in Khogiani district of Nangarhar province on Wednesday (January 23). Unmanned aircraft of the foreign forces blitzed house of a former Taliban commander, Maulvi Noor Muhammad, in Wazeer area of Khogiani district, killing three Taliban fighters and injuring four more, the district governor Haji Syed Rehman told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). He said the area residents were retrieving bodies from the rubbles, adding the casualties could rise. The Afghan civilians did not suffer casualties in the blitz, he added. The area residents told the AIP that only the Taliban suffer casualties in the bombardment. Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AIP that one fighter was killed and two more were injured in the airstrike. "The claim of officials is false. The area residents could have possibly suffered casualties in the blitz," he added. The foreign forces have not said anything in this regard till filling of this report. ISAF soldier dies: A soldier of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in attack of the armed opponents in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the military coalition said. "An International Security Assistance Force service member died following an insurgent attack in eastern Afghanistan today," an ISAF press release available with the Afghan Islamic Press stated. In line with its policy, the press release did not disclose nationality of the dead soldier. Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told the AIP that two foreign troops were killed and three more injured when they conducted operation against the Taliban in the limits of Ghazni City early today. A Taliban fighter was killed and another injured in the gunfight, he added. The death toll of the foreign soldiers to die in Afghanistan reached to seven in the month of January, this year so far. Seven cops injured: A bomb blast left seven police wounded in the limits of Herat City, capital of Herat province today, police said Wednesday. The bomb planted on a bicycle ripped through a police vehicle in Qowai Chahari Zaridar area of the provincial capital at approximately 1:00 p.m., injuring seven cops onboard, Mama Ali Ahmad, criminal investigation police chief of Herat, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). He said the injured were taken to hospital where condition of a victim was declared as critical. Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the incident and their spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi told the AIP that eight policemen had been killed in the blast. End.
