Bid to blow up Quetta-Sibi railway track foiled

QUETTA: Police on Thursday foiled a bid to blow up a railway bridge on the Quetta-Sibi railway track. Station House Officer PS Satellite Town Quetta, Muhammad Aslam said unknown men had planted an improvised explosive device under the bridge on the Quetta-Sibi railway track near in Link Badini. "Soon after receiving intelligence information, police along with bomb disposal squad rushed to the site and defused the bomb," the SHO said. He said that Rawalpindi bound train Jaffar Express was stopped soon after receiving information about the presence of explosives under the railway bridge. Later, the Jaffar Express left for Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, a cracker blast near Bin Qasim damaged the railway track on Thursday. Pakistan Railways Karachi Divisional Superintendent Anzar Ismail Rizvi rushed the railways staff to the spot to carry out necessary repair work. The damaged portion of the track measures two feet. However, no one was injured in the incident, railways official said. He said that the trains including Tezgam, Night Coach, Karachi Express, Khushal Express would leave for their respective destinations upon receiving clearance. End.
