Balochistan govt restored as Raisani agrees to resign

ISLAMABAD: A high-level meeting of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) under the chair of its co-chairperson and President Asif Ali Zardari was held in the Presidency on Wednesday night. The meeting decided to restore the provincial government of Balochistan ending governor's rule. According to reliable sources, the meeting was in process even after the midnight. It was learnt that Sardar Aslam Raisani had agreed to resign from his office so that a new leader of the House and opposition are elected who will set up a caretaker set-up for the forthcoming elections. The meeting was attended Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf among other top party leaders. The PM apprised the meeting that he had received the letter of the opposition leader suggesting names for the caretaker prime minister. President Zardari advised the participants to accelerate consultations with the opposition and make a consensus for the caretaker prime minister within the next 48 hours. It was learnt that the PPP has suggested the names of former finance minister Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and former governor State Bank Dr Ishrat Hussain for the office of the caretaker prime minister. End.
