RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench rejected the bail pleas of Federal Textile Minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin and MNA Ali Musa Gilani in ephedrine quota case on Monday. On August 29, LHC's division bench, comprising Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmed and Justice Ibadur Rehman Lodhi, after hearing the arguments of the counsels of Shahabuddin, Musa and Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), had reserved the judgement on the bail petitions. On Monday, both the accused were absent during the hearing. The lawyers informed the bench that their clients were unaware that the court was scheduled to hear their bail pleas on Monday. Arguing for the bail pleas, the lawyers of both accused said that ephedrine was not included in the list of narcotics and the case could not be investigated by the ANF and that the ANF had no other evidence other than the statements of the two approvers, which were given under duress. The court expressed dissatisfaction and told the lawyers that it was their duty to inform them, and rejected their petitions. End.
