BHC disqualifies Balochistan minister
14 September, 2012
QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Thursday disqualified provincial Excise and Taxation Minister Babu Amin Umrani for possessing a fake degree and issued directions for lodging an FIR against him.
A BHC division bench comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal issued this order on a petition filed against the minister. Umrani was elected to the Balochistan Assembly on Pakistan People's Party's (PPP) ticket in the 2008 general election.
The petitioner, Niaz Ahmed, had pleaded that Umrani had contested the general election on a fake degree. "Amin Umrani did not appear in the examination, rather Mumtaz Ali appeared in his place and solved the papers and he (Umrani) succeeded in getting the degree fraudulently," the petitioner had argued.
Upon directions of the court, the record of examination forms was produced before the bench by the University of Balochistan authorities. The documents presented had name and address of Umrani, but a photograph of Mumtaz Umrani.
End.
