BA session for today cancelled, re-summoned

13 November, 2012

QUETTA: Balochistan Assembly Acting Speaker Matiullah Agha has summoned the session of the House for today (Tuesday) at 4pm on the requisition of the assembly members. Earlier, Balochistan Acting Governor Muhammad Aslam Bhootani withheld the order of the governor to call the Balochistan Assembly session today.

Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani had sent a summary to Governor Zulfiqar Magsi to call the session of the provincial assembly in Quetta on November 13 (today). The governor approved the summary and the ministers started to arrive in the provincial capital for the session. Recently, Governor Magsi left for a private visit abroad, thus constitutionally delegating the authority of governorship to Speaker Aslam Bhootani.

According to details, a letter was written to the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat on the advice of the speaker regarding the assembly session, in which once again the constitutional position of the provincial government and the chief minister was asked from the Supreme Court registrar.

In wake of the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat's concerns, the acting governor had taken back the decision to call the assembly session and directed the Law Ministry to seek an explanation from the Supreme Court registrar in this regard. However, the Balochistan Assembly acting speaker made a late night announcement that the session would be held as per schedule.

CM Raisani had called a meeting of his allies and cabinet ministers at the Chief Minister's House following the cancellation of the session, to ponder over the future course and try to prevent, what political pundits are calling, a new constitutional crisis in Balochistan.

End.
