Auction of Party Tickets... By Col.(r) Riaz

14 January, 2013

While the Long March is on for bringing in the electoral reforms to ensure free and fair election of the honest, sagacious, non-profligate and ameen candidates, may I suggest that the following be also included in the charter of demands of Allama Tahir ul Qadri:

A candidate would stand disqualified for elections:

1:- If he/she has paid, donated or contributed directly or indirectly or anyone else has on his/her behalf in any way any amount or sums in cash, coin or kind towards the party funds to secure the party ticket. 2:- If any amount other than mentioned above is paid/donated/contributed to the party by the candidate or by anyone else on his/her behalf then that amount shall also be reflected in the return showing the total expenditure incurred on the electioneering campaign by the candidate and taken into account for the purpose of acceptance or rejection of his/her nomination papers.

We all know that the party tickets are auctioned and for crores of rupees too! It will go a long way in eliminating such an 'auction" which is in turn a sure inducement for indulgence in corruption by the ticket purchasing candidate. It would certainly help in selecting the right kind of candidates for the elections if the afore mentioned are implemented.
