Asian Parliamentary Assembly... By Wasif

05 December, 2013

It is very heartening to know that Pakistan is hosting the sixth plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly from December 6 to 8, 2013. This indicates that democracy has taken root in Pakistan and every conscientious democrat can derive strength from this. This will be the first time in our history that over 25 Asian countries are participating in this conference with delegates totalling over 200.

Terrorism and extremism must not become the identity of Pakistan. We are passing through difficult times and this event will help Pakistan assert its position. The majority of Asian countries are either developing or underdeveloped. The problems they face are somewhat similar in nature, requiring collective efforts to get resolved. They can learn a lot from each other's experiences. It seems essential for Asian countries to get together and discuss in detail problems and their solutions. What better forum could it be other than an assembly of Asian parliamentarians to chalk out strategies to overcome their problems?

It will be further elevating for the people of Pakistan if all political forces fully support this event and guest delegates go back to their respective countries with a positive view of Pakistan. Democrats in Pakistan hope for the best and wish this assembly resounding success.
