Army stands by govt to control Karachi lawlessness: Gen. Kayani

RAWALPINDI: The army's top brass vowed to help the federal and provincial governments to control the law and order situation in Karachi during the 163rd Corps Commanders' Conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Wednesday.
The conference undertook a comprehensive review of the prevalent internal and external security situation of the country. The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, chaired the meeting. The conference was part of routine monthly meetings.
According to a private TV channel, the meeting decided that the intelligence agencies would provide all support to the government.The federal government had earlier sought help from intelligence agencies in tackling the Karachi violence.
The army's top brass reviewed the tension on the Line of Control and at border with Afghanistan. In the same way, the issue of coordination between security forces on the Afghan border was also reviewed.
