Another bank robbed of Rs 0.8m

26 September, 2012

KARACHI: The law enforcers failed to cope up with relentless bank robberies taking place in the metropolis as yet another bank was robbed of around Rs 0.8 million in broad daylight here on Tuesday.

The bank is situated in Al-Hilal Cooperative Housing Society within the jurisdiction of New Town police station. According eyewitnesses, at least half a dozens armed men barged into the bank at around 12:26 pm. They first snatched the weapons and metal detector from three security guards and then took staff and customers on gunpoint.

The robbers moved towards the cash counter and looted Rs 0.8 million before managing to escape at ease. Sources said that they completed the heist within ten minutes. The culprits also snatched cell phones and other valuables of about half a dozen customers.

SHO Inam Junejo said that the robbers had arrived in a car and motorcycles and all of them wore shalwar kameez. He said that they had obtained the CCTV cameras' footages which might be helpful in investigation. Moreover, police have also detained the bank's security guards to get a lead into the investigation.

It is pertinent to mention here that bank heists have increased manifold in last quarter of the year, while end-to-end robberies committed in September should be a wake up call for the law enforcers.

End.
