Amendments requried for NAP: Chaudhry Shujaat
04 March, 2017
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has called for amendments to the National Action Plan (NAP) and constitutional powers of military courts.
He said this while talking to the media along with leaders of four parties after holding a meeting at his residence in Islamabad on Friday. The meeting evolved a unanimous strategy for participation in the All Parties Conference (APC) convened by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
Besides Khurram Nawaz Gandapur of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Sahibzada Hamid Raza of Sunni Ittehad Council and Allama Nasir Abbas of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen, Senator Kamil Ali Agha, Senator Saeedul Hassan Mendokhel, Muhammad Basharat Raja, Muhammad Yousuf Khan Hoti and other leaders were also present in the meeting.
The meeting deliberated the unanimous strategy on matters relating to national and political situation, National Action Plan, extension to military courts and FATA.
Shujaat said that certain quarters had been telling them not to attend the APC of the PPP but "our stance is that whenever anyone invites [you] for important national matters then one must go in the national interest".
He said that if given an opportunity, "we want to amend the National Action Plan". "We also want to bring about constitutional amendments regarding powers of military courts so that military courts work freely and without any criticism." He said that reforms in FATA must be implemented forthwith, as a five-year wait was not a prudent move.
Senator Kamil Ali Agha said that all ally parties had gathered on the request of Chaudhry Shujaat and the purpose of the meeting was to evolve a joint strategy for the APC.
