Aizaz Chaudhry appointed new foreign secretary

ISLAMABAD: Foreign office spokesman Aizaz Chaudhry has been appointed new foreign secretary; the government has issued notification on Wednesday in this regard.

Aizaz Chaudhry became successor to outgoing secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, who is moving to Washington as ambassador to the United States.

Earlier, Chaudhry was nominated ambassador-designate for Belgium and the European Union.

Ambassador Abdul Basit, currently posted in Germany, had previously been named as the next foreign secretary.
