Afghan transporters complain about border corruption

LANDIKOTAL: A delegation of Afghan transporters called on MNA Shah Gee Gul and complained about alleged corruption by officials at checkposts on Khyber Pass.
Led by Lal Nabi Utmanzai, the Afghan Qaumi Line Sharq delegation alleged that transporters were forced to pay huge bribe on both sides of the Torkham border.
The tribal parliamentarian vowed to submit a privileged motion in the National Assembly against the widespread corruption of Khyber political agent (PA).
"The huge amount, collected illegally at the checkposts, goes to the pocket of an individual rather than in the national exchequer," the MNA expressed these views while talking to the media persons after his meeting with the delegation.
"Each truck is charged Rs 10,000 from Karkhano checkpost to Torkham border," he said and warned that bribery and corruption would force the transporters to go on a strike.
The MNA said that he had discussed the issue with Khyber PA Motahir Zib "but the PA is probably reluctant to check corruption on the checkposts".
