Afghan police claim five Pakistani militants killed in drone strike

PESHAWAR: An Afghan police officer claimed on Saturday that five Pakistanis were among nine armed opponents who were killed in a US drone strike in the Kamdesh area of the eastern Nuristan province on Friday.
Abdul Baqi Nuristani, the police chief of Nuristan province told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that those killed included Abu Baseer, the Afghan commander of the group. He said the five Pakistanis killed in the missile strike were from Punjab.
The Taliban haven't commented on the claim made by the Afghan police official. Also, there was no independent confirmation of this claim.
Meanwhile, sources told the AIP that three drone strikes were carried out in Kamdesh district on Friday. There have been reports about the presence of Taliban fighters and also foreigners in Kamdesh and rest of Nuristan province.
Pakistani Taliban led by Maulana Fazlullah are also stated to be based in parts of Nuristan.
