A welcome step... By Javed

05 October, 2012

In the already stressful environment that is Pakistan today, where the electronic media is bent upon feeding its viewers 'breaking news' on murders, kidnappings and extortion as a daily early morning dose, the NUST School of Leadership has taken a very enlightened and wholesome step in the shape of an initiative called 'Shabaash (Well Done) Pakistan' in an attempt to rekindle the public's faith in patriotism, nationalism and enlightened moderation. This well timed initiative is extremely appreciable and reaffirms the belief held by many Pakistanis that despite all their economic woes under these trying circumstances, there are still people out there who definitely want a resurrection of this country even after the fallout of over a decade of war and extremism.

As a first step, around 250 students were made to participate in interactive exercises and activities on patriotism and nationalism. The fact that the initiative was launched from a youth platform, wherein undergraduate and graduate students were targeted initially, indicates the initiative's sincerity and resolve to deliver. I can assure those who have taken part in the initiative that, as time goes by, more philanthropists and like-minded people will join them to make the move an even greater success. Pakistan's youth is the best hope this country has for a brighter tomorrow in a time of national crisis and our charred global image.

We must fulfil our national responsibility to speak and take action on events that serve only to create differences, imbibe religious hatred, armed interaction and intolerance. I urge my fellow Pakistanis to contribute to all such efforts so that together we can rally this country out of the dark ages to which it has retreated.
