A tale of an old city... By Farooq

06 March, 2013

According to news reports, Mr Shahbaz Sharif is scheduled to visit Muzaffargarh on March 9. Punjab government has often claimed that it has done a lot of development work in the province. It may be true to the extent that some students have been given laptops, but according to a recent research paper, the students are actually wasting a lot of time entertaining themselves on the computers instead of devoting time to their textbooks.

Computer is good for research work for the postgraduate students but it is a great distraction for the undergraduates, especially in countries where paper textbooks are the main medium of education. Other than this, Muzaffargarh has not been a beneficiary of any of the Chief Minister's schemes. A circular road for Muzaffargarh is a longstanding need of the city. The 50-year old so-called Alipur bypass road is not a bypass at all but now lies within the centre of the city. A track connecting Multan Road to Alipur Road near Basti Chamman on the west side has been constructed, but connecting Alipur Road from this site to the Chenab Bridge remains to be done. We would like to request Mr. Shahbaz Sharif to declare a grant for this project when he visits Mauzaffargarh. We shall be highly grateful to him for this kindness.
