7 fishermen drown in Hangol River

28 January, 2014

QUETTA: Seven fishermen drowned when their boat sank in Hingol River in Lasbela district, some 500 kilometres from Quetta.

According to sources, 83 fishermen left the coastal town of Windar for Hingol the other day but their boat sank after it hit an island. The majority of the fisherman rescued themselves but others had gone missing in the river.

Lasbela Deputy Commissioner Amir Sultan Tareen, while talking, confirmed the incident and said that they had recovered five bodies while "two bodies are still missing".

"Around 83 fishermen were fishing near Hingol," he said, adding that their boat hit the Shahd Bhan island and sank. "We then launched a search operation with the help of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Coast Guard to find the fishermen."

End.
