7 cops, three civilians killed in Kunar blast

ASADABAD: An improvised explosive device killed seven police personnel and three Afghan civilians in Dangam district of Kunar province on Thursday.

An IED ripped through a police van in Deergi area of Dangam district, killing seven cops on the spot, a border police officer in eastern zone Colonel Wali Khan Shinwari told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP). He said Afghan civilians also suffered casualties in the blast but he did not have accurate information.

Meanwhile, the Dangam police chief Matiullah told the AIP that three civilians were also killed in the explosion.

A tribal elder in the area, Mazmin Khan told the AIP a police van struck an IED, leaving three cops injured.

"The injured cops were being taken to the hospital when another IED ripped through the same vehicle, killing the wounded cops, four more policemen and three civilians on the board," he added.

The Taliban have not said anything in this regard till filling of this report.

Meanwhile, a bomb blast left three people wounded in Khost city, capital of Khost province, police said Thursday.

The explosive device planted at a roadside went off near mechanical college at approximately 8:40 a.m. (local time), injuring a traffic police, Faiz Muhammad, secretary to Khost police chief, told Afghan Islamic Pres (AIP).

He did not give further details.

A doctor at Babri Gul hospital, however, told AIP that three injured were brought to them from the site of the explosion, adding a police, a traffic cop and a civilian were among the injured.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
