7 Taliban killed, 10 wounded during clash

SHEBARGHAN: At least seven Taliban were killed and 10 more wounded during a clash with security forces in Darzaab district of northern Jowzjan province yesterday, an official said Monday.

A clash took place between Taliban and government forces in Chakana Payeen area in which seven Taliban including their commander, Mulla Zia, were killed and 10 wounded, Rahmatullah Hashar, administrator of Darzaab district, told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

A civilian caught in firefight was also killed and another wounded, he said, adding there was no damage to police.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also reported a clash between Taliban and police.

He said the clash erupted after Taliban attacked a police check post, causing damage to police.

Mujahid did not disclose if Taliban suffered casualties or not.

Woman, teacher killed in separate incident: SHEBARGHAN (AIP): Unidentified gunmen killed a woman and a teacher in separate incidents in Khamyab and Mardian districts of northern Jowzjan province yesterday, the police said Monday .

Unknown gunmen decapitated a woman in Khamyab district , the investigation police chief of Jowzjan, Abdul Latif Ishaqzai told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The woman who had two children was slaughtered in the absence of her husband, he said, adding that a man had been arrested in connection with the incident.

In a separate incident, a middle school teacher was killed in Mardian district, he said.

Roadside bomb blast injures three police: LASHKARGAH (AIP): A roadside bomb injured three police in Greshk district of Helmand province today, hospital sources said Monday.

A doctor at Lashkargah Emergency Hospital told Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that a bomb ripped through a police vehicle in the limits of Greshk district before noon, injuring thee cops.

He said the injured policemen were brought to them and were in stable condition.

Muhammad Ismail Khan Hottak, deputy head of combined force's coordination office in Helmand, confirmed the bomb attack on police and said the incident happened in Band Baraq area of Greshk district.
