523 independents win Balochistan LB polls

QUETTA: Independent candidates were leading the outcome of the local bodies polls held in Balochistan followed by candidates belonging to the National Party (NP) and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), according to unofficial results.
The results of 1,196 seats out of 1,686 seats were announced in which independent candidates bagged 523 seats whereas the National Party (NP) and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) grabbed 153 and 130 seats respectively.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) got 130 seats and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) secured 113 seats in the province.The local bodies' elections were held in a largely peaceful manner in Balochistan on Saturday, amid tight security.
Around 18,000 candidates are in the run for 4,600 seats of local bodies, including the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation, four municipal corporations, 53 municipal committees and 32 district councils.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 2,507 candidates have been elected unopposed and 508 seats have remained vacant because no candidate has filed nomination papers for them.Final results of the polls would be announced on December 10.
