KARACHI: Bodies of nine people were recovered and 16 remained missing after an ill-fated fishing boat Al-Rehman capsized in the sea late on Sunday night.

The incident occurred when the boat was in the open seas near Khuddi and Khahi creeks, 15-km off the Ibrahim Hydry, Karachi coast, said Majeed Motani, a senior boat captain and community activist.

The bodies recovered were identified as those of Ismail, two brothers Yaseen and Hussain, Hameedullah, Bilal, Naushad, Sadiq Khaskheli, Shams Alam and Abdul Shakoor while the identity of one could not be ascertained.

12 people were earlier recovered, including boat captain Ahmed by other boats sailing in the vicinity, Local people said that 12 fishermen belonged to Malir's village Khair Mohammed Khaskheli. Relatives of the victims were present at different jetties of Ibrahim Hyderi to learn about the fate of their loved ones lost in the sea.

Locals said there were only community people among the rescuers and nobody from the government was there to help them. Earlier, the Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) issued a warning for boat owners and placed a ban on fishing in the open sea for three days following the forecast by the Met Department.
