12 people drown as boat capsizes in Thatta

THATTA: At least 12 pilgrims drowned as an overloaded boat capsized in the Indus River near Thatta on Wednesday.

As many as 20 people were taken out of the river in an unconscious condition. According to the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), the boat capsized near the coastal area of Shah Bandar.

The vessel was carrying 35 people, four motorcycles and eight goats. The pilgrims were going to attend the annual urs of Allahdino Mendhro, the PFF source said. The Thatta deputy commissioner said the incident occurred due to the strong winds.
