12 fall prey to two-day violence in metropolis

KARACHI: As many as 12 people, including two policemen and two political workers, were shot dead in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis on Friday and Saturday. Two policemen were gunned down in Vita Chowrangi, Korangi.

An official said Akhtar Shahzad, 45, and Abdul Aziz, 52, were deployed at the election commission camp at a government school in the area. On late Friday night, they left the camp to have some food on their motorcycle when two unidentified culprits first intercepted them and later on, opened a volley of bullets on them, resultantly, both received bullet wounds and died instantly.

The bodies were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

The officer also informed that the culprits also took away their official weapons while fleeing. He said that police had found over a dozen empty shells of 9MM pistol from the crime scene. The case was registered against unidentified persons.

Separately, a man affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) was killed and his brother injured in an armed attack at Jamshed Quarters within the limits of Jamshed Quarters police station.

An official said that two unidentified armed pillion riders opened targeted fire at a refrigeration repair shop, as a result, Sharafat Ali, 25, was gunned down and his brother, Mubarak Ali, injured. The body and the injured were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). Police said both the victims were affiliated with MQM and employees of the Karachi Municipal Corporation.

Another activist of MQM was killed in Islam Nagar, Orangi Town within the limits of Orangi Town police station.

According to police, Shabbir Ahmed, 27, was sitting at a shop near his house when two armed pillion riders barged into the shop and shot him multiple bullets before fleeing.

A man affiliated with Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was shot dead and his two companions were injured in Orangi Town within the jurisdiction of Orangi police station.

According to police, Noorul Bashar, 28, and injured Maulana Saleemullah and Shoaib, were sitting near a mosque when armed risers opened targeted fire on them. As a result, all of them received bullet injures and were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH), where during treatment Noor succumbed to his injuries.

Similarly, a sympathizer of ASWJ was killed in Orangi Town within the limits of Pakistan Bazaar police station.

An official said that Waqar Ahmed, 25, was standing near his shop when two armed riders opened indiscriminate fire on him. As a result, he sustained critical bullet wounds and was rushed to ASH, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The bullet-riddled body of an activist of Pakistan Sunni Tehreek (PST) was found near Saddar parking plaza within the jurisdiction of Brigade police station.

An official said that the victim was later identified as Sajid, 24.

A man was killed in Block 19, FB Area within the jurisdiction of Samanabad police station. According to police, Yousuf, 23, was killed by armed riders.

Moreover, a man was shot dead on Abul Hassan Ispanhi Road within the limits of Mobina Town police station.

The body of a man was found near Abdullahabad, Surjani within jurisdiction of Surjani Town police station.

According to police, Mirza Sabir Baig, 26, had a criminal record and was recently released from jail on a bail after two-and-a-half-year's imprisonment over a murder.

Similarly, the body of another man was found from Northern Bypass within the limits of Surjani police station. Police said that the deceased was identified as Adnan Akram.

Further more, another shot dead man was found from Bakra Piri, Malir. The deceased was identified as Asif.
