KABUL/HERAT: Twelve Taliban fighters have been killed in various parts of the country, the Ministry of Interior said Monday .

The joint forces conducted operations in Kunar, Baghlan, Kandahar, Wardak, Logar and Ghazni provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 10 Taliban fighters, injuring one and arresting nine more, an interior ministry press release available with the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) stated.

The press release said two Taliban fighters were killed when an IED they were trying to plant went off prematurely in Grishk district.

The security forces seized 10 weapons, six IEDs and some war gadgets in various parts of the country, the press release added.

Meanwhile, a cop was killed and three more, including a district police chief, were injured in an improvised explosive device in Farah province on Monday .

An IED ripped through the vehicle of Khak-i-Sufaid district police chief, Abdul Ghani, in Khost area of the district, the Farah police chief Aaqa Noor Kaintoos told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

A cop was killed while Abdul Ghani and his two guards were injured in the bombing, he added.

Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing and their spokesman Qari Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi told the AIP that five policemen, including the police chief, were injured in the blast.

The Taliban have not said anything about the statement of interior ministry till filling of this report.
