11 more killed in Karachi

KARACHI: Sectarian and politically motivated killings claimed eleven more lives in the commercial hub of the country on Monday.
A member of the clergy affiliated with Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) was killed at Disco Bakery, within the precincts of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station. An official said the deceased, Maulana Farooq, was standing near the bakery when two armed motorcyclists opened fire on him. He was rushed to a private hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead. The deceased taught holy Quran and hailed from Punjab.
Another activist of the ASWJ was shot dead in Sector 5B-1 of North Karachi within the limits of Khawja Ajmair Nagri police station. SHO Chauhdry Afzal said two armed motorcyclists fired at Muhammad Irfan as he was sitting outside his house. He received multiple injuries and died on the spot. His body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem and later handed over to his family.
An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead at Bangla Bazaar within the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar police station. According to police the deceased, 30-year-old Shamshad, was standing outside a tea shop near his house when armed riders opened fire on him, killing him instantly. His body was taken to ASH for medico-legal formalities. An activist of the Pakistan People's Party was gunned down in Orangi Town within the remits of Pakistan Bazaar police station.
A doctor was shot dead at Village Road, Lyari, within the precincts of Kalakot police station. Two unidentified armed men barged into the victim's private clinic and shot him dead. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi. An elderly man was killed in Sultanabad as he was waiting to welcome his relatives returning home after performing Hajj.
A man, Bacha Khan, was killed during a raid by law enforcement agencies. Two others were gunned down in Memon Goth. A man was shot dead in Shahbaz Nagar in the vicinity of Iqbal Market police station. An elderly man was gunned down in Yusuf Goth, Balida, within the limits of Saeedabad police station. A passerby, who was injured in crossfire between two rival groups on Sunday in Sohrab Goth succumbed to his injuries on Monday.
