KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Engineering and Maintenance Department which has an extensive repair and maintenance facility for its aircraft at Karachi has performed its first major maintenance check (Check-A) of Boeing 777 aircraft at Lahore.
Junaid Yunus Managing Director PIA congratulated the PIA engineering team headed by Saminuddin Naqvi in accomplishing this great task.
He said in order to extend aircraft maintenance network PIA has started to build maintenance hubs at Lahore and Islamabad in addition to its base at Karachi. Performing Check-A of B777 aircraft is a major milestone in this regard.
Addition of maintenance hubs will allow PIA to improve the maintenance and reliability standards of its aircraft and will add flexibility and profitability to its maintenance and flight schedule.
This will also eliminate flight schedule dead legs between Karachi and Lahore. This achievement not only shows the commitment of PIA management to improve and extend the functionality of the Airline, but also shows the skill and dedication of its workforce.
PIA Engineering plans to extend the maintenance facilities at Lahore and Islamabad further to perform major checks of all aircraft in its fleet and also offer services to third party customers to generate additional revenue for the Airline.
