Govt designates WAPDA chairman as power sector coordinator

LAHORE: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) chairman has been made overall coordinator for the power sector to establish effective coordination and improve administration while all companies has been asked to directly report to him.

The federal government has issued orders empowering the WAPDA Chairman Syed Ragib Shah in this regard.

The chief executive officers of the power distribution companies (DISCOs), generation companies (GENCOs), the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC)/Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) and the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) will report directly to him for the purpose.

WAPDA chairman will also discharge his duties as co-chairman of the reconstituted Board of Directors of NTDC/CPPA.

Water and Power Ministry has issued notification to this effect. After these orders the power load management has also come directly under the WAPDA chairman.
