LAHORE: A decrease in electricity shortfall, though not more than 500MW, has been noted in the national grid on Sunday and situation further improved on Monday, said an official of Energy Management Cell (EMC).It has been stated that Pakistan State Oil started extra fuel supply to power plants which would add another 1,200MW in the energy basket on Tuesday (today). The official said that the gap between electricity demand and supply which three days before was crossing 6,500MW would decrease by at least 2,000MW.“We are hoped that electricity shortfall will not cross 4,500MW in next days and if hydel generation improved, it will decrease to 4,000MW,” he added. According to data released by the EMC, electricity generation currently stood at 12,737MW against demand of 18,460MW.

The figures showed that 4,735MW of electricity is being generated through hydel power plants, 1,326MW and 6,041MW through thermal power plants and IPPs respectively. The major cities of Punjab are facing nine to 10 hours loadshedding while rural areas are under the grip of 14 hours shutdown, the official said, adding the intensity of loadshedding duration would come down further two hours for the consumers of urban and rural areas from Tuesday.
