ISLAMABAD: Attorney General (AG) of Pakistan Irfan Qadir on Wednesday apprised the Supreme Court the government had given a no objection certificate (NOC) to assigning of concession lease by the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) to a Chinese company.
Appearing before the three-member bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sh Azmat Saeed in response to a constitutional plea moved by Barrister Zafrullah of Watan Party, the AG recorded his statement.
The bench disposed of the petition for the time being with the observation that no further action was called for.
The petitioner had sought a directive against awarding of concession lease to a foreign company for a period of 40 years and said the lease might be given to a Pakistani company capable of completing the project.
During the course of proceedings, the Chief Justice inquired from the AG whether the leasing contract with Singapore company was intact to which he replied that it had now been assigned to a Chinese company.
